All eyes were on Hollywood on Sunday night for one of its biggest events of the year – the 83rd annual Academy Awards.
One of the most highly anticipated categories was Best Actress – for weeks, industry insiders have been narrowing the field of five to a showdown between Annette Bening for her portrayal of a lesbian mom in The Kids Are All Right and Natalie Portman for her role in Black Swan.
Bening received a ton of critical acclaim for her work on The Kids Are All Right, but it was Portman who took home the Oscar.
The Kids Are All Right received three additional nominations: Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor (Mark Ruffalo, who is a New Yorker for Marriage Equality) and Best Original Screenplay (Lisa Cholodenko and Stuart Blumberg).
The film was one of the standouts of 2010 – funny, heartfelt, and full of the love and struggles that are shared by every American family.
It has a simple message: Families with LGBT parents are not all that different than any other family. And the kids who are raised by LGBT parents are doing just fine.
